From thinking to practice: developing The Invisible Infrastructure

The Invisible Infrastructure is more than a framework for understanding artist development and creative sustainability. It is a way of thinking about what enables creative people and their work to thrive and endure.

I’m developing this thinking through three connected strands, each with a different role.

1. Developing the thinking — The Books

A connected four-book series exploring the individual, the systems surrounding creative practice and the conditions that enable it to last.

Save the Artist — The Foundation

The Invisible Framework Playbook — The System

The Creative Catalyst — The Action

What Holds — The Condition

2. Applying the thinking — Landscape of Me

A structured development experience helping creatives explore their identity, circumstances, professional environments and support networks, and understand what they need to sustain their creative practice.

3. Bringing perspectives together — The Unseen Lab

A collaborative space bringing artists, commissioners and music industry stakeholders together to examine the conditions surrounding creative work, challenge established practices and explore opportunities for change.

The Lab will also contribute to the development of the Invisible Infrastructure Charter: shared principles for improving how creative people are developed, supported and sustained.

Together, these strands connect ideas, individual development and wider industry conversations.

Because talent development isn’t simply about creating opportunities. It’s about understanding and developing the conditions that allow talent to flourish over time.

Talent builds moments. Infrastructure builds legacies.

I’m interested in connecting with organisations, funders, educators, artists and industry colleagues who are exploring these questions and see opportunities for collaboration.
